BC Haida artists Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, author of ‘A Tale of Two Shaman’ [2001] & ‘The Last Voyage of the Black Ship’ [2002] Is getting some favourable attention as of late. The Museum of Anthropology, located on the University of BC campus in Vancouver, is hosting a special exhibition this summer showing all the original paintings and sketches from Michael’s most recent published Graphic Novel "The Last Voyage of the Black Ship", work they purchased from him in whole for their collection earlier this year. If you're in Vancouver, maybe attending the COMICON august 24th at the Heritage Hall 3102 Main Street Vancouver, make a point of going out to the Museum of Anthropology. It will encourage them to continue their new found interest in comic books.

Later this year in October Michael’s Rocking Raven art is going to be on exhibit in Japan! The Canadian Consulate gallery is the venue- The event in the Tokyo Design 2003, an international and annual event showcasing international design concepts. The Bark Design Collective selected 24 pieces out of the 75 submissions based on the mandate to "exhibited a sense of provocative design worthy of international exposure".

Michael received a call for submission for the selection of pieces for the Canadian exhibit at the Tokyo Design show…

“I filled it out, made a case that Japan loves Manga and that what I’m doing is not usual. Made the deadline and made the grade”

His art will be on display as a large banner poster with the images also presented as a booklet. The booklet will be laid out for photocopy press and given away to all who attend the show-

Also Michael was contacted by a representative of a group of Japanese Academics wishing to translate his books into Japanese and arrange for sales in large chain stores!

Congrats Michael
