CBC Arts: UCLA curriculum to feature Winnipeg artist collectivE

TORONTO - Winnipeg artists will be on the curriculum at the University of California in Los Angeles next month, as UCLA's continuing education department offers a seminar on the city's prolific collective, the Royal Art Lodge.

The seminar, set to take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles on Feb. 5, is being held in conjunction with the museum's current exhibit Royal Art Lodge: Ask the Dust. The show features about 300 collaborative drawings, paintings and videos as well as more than 400 works by the solo artists.

Centred on the former University of Manitoba art school students who first gathered in 1996 to produce collaborative drawings, the half-day session will examine the collective's lighthearted and dynamic artworks as well as what influenced its members.
