Lost in the Archives
:: Posted by Bryan @ 8/09/2006 06:03:00 PM Over at the Drawn and Quarterly blog D&Q publisher Chris Oliveros talks about a recent trip to the National Archives in Ottawa. Oliveros, along with writer Brad Mackay and cartoonist Seth, spent three days looking through the Archives' collection of Doug Wright material in preparation for a two-volume edition of Wright's work scheduled for 2007.
The depth and span of the collection is apparently amazing --Wright kept tear sheets of everything he ever did, published or not, beginning with his first ventures into comics as a very young RCAF airman. I've been privileged to see some of this work (albeit in photocopy form) and all I can say is "Wow." Wright was a very skilled cartoonist and draughtsman right from the get-go and this early work will surprise everyone when it is eventually republished.
