Standing Together
:: Posted by Bryan @ 8/15/2006 07:41:00 AM Following on the heels of Darkness Falls by Cree cartoonist Steve Sanderson (which Sequentrial reported on here) comes Standing Together, a Vancouver anthology which "includes six stories on the subjects of drug addiction, mental health, body image, stereotypes, suicide and taking responsibility. Copies were given to 15 First Nations communities in B.C., and the health network is planning to push for national distribution in the fall," according to the Globe and Mail.
"Three more books, on diabetes, women's sexual health and staying in school, are being fleshed out for early next year, with funding secured from the B.C. Ministry of Health, the Canadian Council on Learning and First Nations and Inuit Health, under Health Canada."
Contributors mentioned in the article include first-time comic book artists Sharifah Marsden and Tania Willard who talk a bit about their young teen audience and the intent of the project.
