03.Jun.2010 Kate Beaton in New Yorker
In what is another feather for Kate Beaton’s cap, the Nova Scotian cartoonist has her first New Yorker cartoon in the current issue (June 7).
It’s another impressive step for Beaton, and a signal of institutional recognition for excellent comic work that happened to originate online.
Beaton will have another New Yorker cartoon in a forthcoming issue.
With Francoise Mouly as an art editor at the magazine, and frequent contributions from alt-cartoonists (Ivan Brunetti and Daniel Clowes did the covers for the past two issues). The New Yorker is certainly a friendly and progressive american publication for comic creators.
Hopefully that inclusiveness extends to other worthy comic creators who start online in order to further highlight quality work like Beaton’s.
