07.Jan.2012 carte blanche 14 Graphic Fiction

Bit late posting about this, carte blanch 14 has been live for a little while now already, i have not gotten it together to post the runner ups from the submissions like i have previously.

They’re worth it, some very strong submissions for this issue – thanks everyone!

I’ve just been too busy and disorganized to get it done yet. I will, later this month. But in the meantime you should check out our selected stories for this issue.

We had a loose theme this issue, Obsessions.

Ainsley Olsen gave us this short one pager titled PIECES on the subject.

And Daniel Ha sent us a ten page story titled A sunset.

Also I quite like  Aurora Ira‘s “PAIRED“. Bit of visual poetry.

That and much more in carte blance 14 | the on-line lit journal you didn’t know you didn’t know about.  Lots of surprisingly good stuff.

22.Jan.2011 Calling all Cartoonists, Sequential Artists, and Mark Makers.

The next Bi-annual deadline for submissions of graphic fiction to be published in the spring 2011 – 13th edition – of carte blanche is March 15th! You have 53 days to submit!

carte blanche is an online Literary review
published twice a year – in the spring and fall.

Now in our seventh year we insist there is more than one way to tell a story. Figurations written, spoken, captured and drawn. Our mandate; to provide a venue for narrative of all forms. Including Sequential Art described by the categories of Photo Essays, and Graphic Fiction.

For Graphic Fiction we are honoured and pleased to look at new unpublished creations. We will consider previously published work if it has appeared on personal websites/blogs or in small run print zines. If your work has been previously published, please specify where.

We are looking for the best of the Sequential Arts. There are no boundaries on theme, length, or the regional origins of the creator. While carte blanche is backed by the Quebec Writers’ Federation, the journal is open to submissions from anyone, anywhere!

This is an opportunity to get graphic fiction published in a recognized online Literary review. Previous creators published are Nina Bunjevac, Mara Sternberg, Dustin Harbin, Aaron Costain and Francis Raven. There will be one graphic fiction story in the 13th edition, will it be yours?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Important! – Updates
- Please save the images at 72 dpi.
- Images should be 1000 pixels wide. carte blanche is a digital journal so we don’t limit the dimensions, we just need enough resolution to have some flexibility. Hence only the width dimensions. Make pages whatever shape you like. Round even!
- Submissions should be collected into a SINGLE .zip file or multi page PDF in order to upload it.
- File formats to use are .png, .gif, .pdf, or .jpg. Do not send Tiff or PSD files.
- Please submit a completed story. Not a proposal or outline. We will only consider work already completed and ready for publishing.
-You may submit more than one story. However only one submission will be published in the next issue.
-Story length/page count is flexible, but we suggest no more than 20-30 pages maximum. If you have a longer work you would like to submit we would consider an excerpt.

Upload your work using our online Submission Manager, via this link.
http://carte-blanche.org/submissions/

Note: We’re switching a Submishmash submissions manager which will be operational by Jan 30th latest. Not to worry though, If you already have created a password for our submissions site it will still work and any material you submitted before the changeover should still be received.

Simultaneous submissions: We do accept simultaneous submissions. Please indicate in your cover letter if you are sending your piece elsewhere and notify us immediately if your piece is accepted somewhere else.

Rights: We ask for first world serial rights and the right to archive your work on the website. Copyright reverts to the author upon publication. At this time we’re only publishing digitally, if we wish to use your work in a future print publication we will contact you about obtaining the rights to do so at that time.

Payment: carte blanche does pay a modest honorarium per submission. We hope to increase the amount in the future but at this time there are no page rates or royalties.

Cheers
